Monster Moods!

Monster Moods! Coloring book by Danny Clark, LCSW

I made a coloring book!

Waiting rooms are a real drag for kids. I always love seeing a waiting room with anything other than a TV for kids to stay busy. So in the waiting room of my practice, I provide therapeutic and fun activities for kids waiting.

I recently dipped my toes into AI image creation and created several fun images for kids to color while sitting in my waiting room. These first started as silly little pages with various subjects. Quickly the process went from making simple coloring pages to a full-fledged coloring book with activities for children to learn about their feelings. After a few months of learning AI, developing creative activities, and designing the book, I created Monster Moods! A Feelings Activity Coloring Book.

Feelings vocabulary is important.

For many children, frustration comes with a lack of words to describe their feelings. In therapy, we use different methods to teach kids about their feelings and connect their outside world to those feelings. This helps promote self-advocacy, increase self-esteem, and broaden their understanding of empathy. I created this book with the intention of emotional learning.

Pages to color and activities

The book has activities to identify children’s support community, learn ways to manage difficult emotions, and share their world within the pages. Each activity page uses a principle of play therapy. The activities range from creative drawing prompts coping strategies, and self-affirmations.

Using the book with your kids

Children will naturally open up and share their world during a quiet activity. In my play therapy sessions, I will use some form of coloring or drawing activity to “check in” and see how my client is feeling. Parents can use this book as a weekly activity of education and nurturance. Kids love to work on something with their parents, and this coloring book is like getting on the floor with them to play with a favorite toy.
